Get quick answers to common questions about the Plugable UD-3900PDZ triple monitor docking station, including display setup, 100W laptop charging, and device compatibility.
Quick answer
The Plugable UD-3900PDZ USB-C docking station supports up to three HDMI monitors, 100W laptop charging, and six USB 3.0 devices, making it a versatile hub for hybrid workstations.
Compatibility and trade-offs
While the UD-3900PDZ works with a wide range of USB-C laptops, not all systems support triple displays. Some laptops, especially those with integrated graphics, may only drive two external monitors. Check your laptop's USB-C video output capabilities before expecting three monitors.
The 100W charging is delivered via USB-C Power Delivery 3.0. Laptops requiring more than 100W (like some gaming or workstation models) will charge slower or not at all. Verify your laptop's charging requirements to avoid disappointment.
Frequently asked questions
- How many monitors can I connect?
- You can connect up to three HDMI monitors. The dock supports triple display output, but your laptop must also support three external displays. Some systems may be limited to two.
- Will it charge my laptop?
- Yes, the dock delivers up to 100W of power via USB-C Power Delivery. This is enough for most ultrabooks and thin laptops. Check your laptop's power requirements; if it needs more than 100W, charging may be slower.
- Does it work with my laptop brand?
- The UD-3900PDZ is designed for broad compatibility with Windows, macOS, and Chrome OS laptops from brands like Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Apple (M1/M2/M3 MacBooks with USB-C). For MacBooks, note that Apple limits display support to one external monitor via USB-C. Verify your laptop's USB-C video and power delivery support before purchase.
- Can I use wired internet?
- Yes, the dock includes a Gigabit Ethernet port for stable wired networking. This is useful in offices or homes where Wi-Fi is unreliable.
- How many USB devices can I connect?
- The dock has six USB 3.0 ports (including two USB-C data ports). You can connect multiple peripherals like external drives, mice, keyboards, and printers simultaneously.
